Background
India and North Macedonia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in several sectors, including digital technology, healthcare, agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI), trade and tourism, during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the European nation. The visit marked the first bilateral visit by an Indian President to North Macedonia.
The two sides reviewed their bilateral relationship and agreed to identify new areas of cooperation to further expand ties. They highlighted digital technology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, automotive, agriculture, agro-products and emerging technologies as priority sectors for future collaboration.
Both countries also discussed reforms of the United Nations. North Macedonia reiterated its support for India’s bid for permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council. The leaders agreed to continue working together at multilateral forums.
India and North Macedonia also renewed their memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the health sector for another five years. The renewed agreement aims to promote joint initiatives, technology development and stronger healthcare collaboration between the two countries.
The discussions also covered improving direct connectivity between the two nations to support business, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides said they would explore ways to move the proposal forward.
During the visit, President Murmu held talks with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and also met Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. North Macedonia reaffirmed its support for India in the fight against terrorism and condemned the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Indian government said the visit reflects India’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with North Macedonia and expanding engagement with European countries. It added that stronger cooperation across key sectors would support long-term economic growth and mutual development.
