Background:

Jersey Mike’s Subs will open in Europe for the first time in 2026. The brand plans to launch 400 stores in the U.K. and Ireland, led by founder Peter Cancro through his company JM Submarines UK Ltd.

The deal represents the beginning of a broader strategy to expand Jersey Mike’s presence globally. The privately owned sandwich chain was acquired by private equity firm Blackstone in late 2024 for a reported $8 billion.

“All consumers, not only in the U.S. but around the world, are looking for value without compromising quality,” said Jersey Mike’s CEO Charlie Morrison in an interview.

Morrison highlighted that deli-style sandwiches are increasingly popular worldwide and stressed that Jersey Mike’s would maintain its U.S. roots while accommodating local tastes. “Consumers appreciate the product that made the brand successful,” he said, referencing his previous experience leading Wingstop into international markets.

Cancro, who founded Jersey Mike’s in 1975 after purchasing the first Mike’s Subs store in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, led the brand as CEO for nearly 50 years before Morrison took over in April 2025. He emphasized that while some toppings or sauces might differ overseas, the sandwiches will remain true to the original U.S. offerings.

“With a strong sandwich market in Europe and numerous competitors, we see a tremendous opportunity,” Cancro said. “We are confident that Jersey Mike’s can win over new diners while staying committed to quality and taste.”
