Background:
Porsche has unveiled an all-electric version of its Cayenne SUV, making it the most powerful production vehicle the company has ever made. The 2026 Cayenne EV has 1,139 horsepower, can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, and produces up to 1,106 foot-pounds of torque. Its top speed is 162 mph.
The new Cayenne EV surpasses the Taycan Turbo GT, which previously held the title of Porsche’s most powerful road-legal vehicle with 1,019 horsepower. For peak performance, drivers need to activate a special launch mode; in normal driving conditions, the SUV produces up to 844 horsepower.
Porsche is offering two versions of the Cayenne EV. The high-end “Turbo Electric” model starts at $163,000, placing it among the most expensive vehicles in Porsche’s lineup. A standard model with 402 horsepower and 615 foot-pounds of torque starts at $109,000.
The SUV features a 113 kWh battery and an 800-volt electrical system capable of charging from 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes. Porsche is also offering an optional wireless charging system, although it charges at a slower pace than traditional plug-in methods.
Orders for the Cayenne Electric are now open, with deliveries expected by the end of next summer. The SUV will be sold alongside Porsche’s traditional combustion-engine and hybrid models, making it the third electric Porsche available in the U.S., after the Taycan in 2019 and the Macan in 2024.
Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said the company is adjusting to changes in the automotive market while keeping its focus on high-performance vehicles. The Cayenne Electric combines advanced technology with Porsche’s sports car heritage, setting a new standard for electric SUVs.
