Background:

UK-based AI infrastructure startup Nscale has raised $2 billion in a funding round led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, pushing its valuation to $14.6 billion, the company announced on Monday. The round also featured participation from chip giant Nvidia, along with Astra Capital Management, Citadel, Dell, Jane Street, Lenovo, Linden Advisors, Nokia, and Point72.

The fresh capital will accelerate Nscale’s development of AI infrastructure, including data centers, GPU computing, networking, cloud access, and orchestration software, across Europe, North America, and Asia. CEO and founder Josh Payne said the investment is helping the company build the “engine of superintelligence,” describing it as the largest infrastructure expansion in history.

Founded in 2024, Nscale has quickly become an important player in data infrastructure. The startup runs data centers in the U.K., U.S., Norway, Portugal, and Iceland and has recently signed deals with major tech companies. Nscale partnered with Microsoft in October in an expanded collaboration reportedly worth $14 billion, and earlier launched a Stargate-branded AI data center in Norway in partnership with OpenAI.

In addition to new funding, Nscale announced three new board members: former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta executive Nick Clegg, and former Yahoo president Susan Decker. The new board members show the company is building stronger leadership and trust in the industry.

The funding follows recent raises: a $1.4 billion loan in February, a $1.1 billion Series B round in September, and a $433 million pre-Series C round in October. A source familiar with the company said the latest valuation is more than double its Series B valuation, which Nscale did not disclose.

The company also said it is planning a public offering to support further growth. As demand for technology grows, Nscale’s fast expansion and big partnerships show how important data infrastructure is for both new and established tech companies.
