US Representative Deb Haaland was affirmed on Monday as Secretary of the Interior, turning into the first Native American to lead a bureau office and getting a focal part in President Joe Biden’s general plan to battle environmental change. 

The US Senate affirmed the New Mexico Democrat 51-40 after she secured uphold from Republicans including South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, Alaska Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, and Maine Senator Susan Collins. 

Among the two Native American women chosen for Congress, Haaland got to achieve the first spot in 2018. 

Her rising to the bureau followed a long time of battling by Native American tribes and environmental gatherings on the side of her noteworthy appointment.
