Background

BCRS Business Loans has provided £5.2 million in funding through the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II since the programme launched in February 2024, supporting dozens of businesses across the Midlands region.

The Wolverhampton-based lender said the funding has helped 82 businesses and created an estimated economic impact of £27.5 million. The company added that 21% of the loans were provided to ethnic-led businesses, while 15% supported female-led firms.

One of the businesses that received support was Ace Embroidery, which used the funding to move to a larger warehouse facility in Cradley Heath, Sandwell. The company said the new site has improved operations, provided more space and reduced running costs through better energy efficiency.

Ace Embroidery’s management said the relocation has helped the business reorganise operations, improve communication among staff and prepare for expansion into new markets. The company also stated that the funding process with BCRS Business Loans was smooth and supported throughout.

BCRS Business Loans said helping small businesses secure finance remains central to its work. The lender added that the investment fund is designed to support businesses that may struggle to access traditional funding, particularly in underserved regions and communities.

The Midlands Engine Investment Fund II offers debt finance ranging from £25,000 to £2 million and equity investment of up to £5 million to support small and medium-sized businesses across the Midlands.
