Consumers Spent $23.4 Billion on Apps in Q1 2020

As per the record of AppAnnie, people are spending their most time on Consumers apps to manage their finances, to work from home, to do their shopping, find new exercises, and to stay entertained as all are stuck at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. According to the data, first quarter of this year has been recorded as the largest-ever quarter in terms of consumer spend on apps.

In first quarter, users have spent around $23.4 billion through the app stores all across the world. As per the statistics, Google Play accounted $8.3 billion while iOS has made $15 billion. Both of these counts showcase an increase of 5% year-over-year on their respective platforms. A sum of over $16.7 billion has been spent only on games. 35% of users have spent on iOS and 15% of users have spent on Google Play for the non-gaming apps.

Most of the Android users have spent on games, social and entertainment apps especially Disney+ and Twitch, according to various records. Consumers, who spent on iOS are largely from US and China, and those who spent on Google Play are from US, South Korea and Japan.

It has also been noted that there were 31 billion new apps that have been downloaded in the first quarter of 2020, which is 15% up from the last quarter of 2019. India and Brazil were remain the largest markets for Google Play downloads, and US and China remain the largest markets for iOS downloads.
